Individual Financial Products
Annuities
Used as a retirement vehicle to help prevent outliving one's savings. Allows a person to accumulate wealth while working so that they can utilize it when retired. The benefit of an annuity is that the annuity will grow on a tax-deferred basis until distribution. Upon distribution at age 59 1/2 (age that you can draw on your annuity without penalty), only the interest accumulated is taxable income.
Traditional IRA
This retirement account is designed for anyone under the age of 70 1/2 with earned income. The benefit of this plan is that the contributions to the account are generally tax-deductible (depending on annual income levels) and the money in the fund grows on a tax-deferred basis. However, upon distribution, these funds are generally fully taxable.
Roth IRA
This retirement vehicle is designed for everyone. Unlike the traditional IRA, the funds that are initially put into the account are not tax-deductible. However, the contributions grow tax-free so that the distribution is completely non-taxable.
